The guide to self-styling for the Independent Satanist
This article discusses the concepts of originality as it applies to the practice and philosophy of Satanism. Satanism is first and foremost a life-philosophy, from which other means of spirituality are developed. Satanism as a philosophy promotes freedom of thought and it is designed to be "designable" by the user. It is a philosophy that could potentially include many beliefs and paradigms into one life-experience.
The reason for this is that the Satanist, being an occultist first and foremost - is entitled to the use of any information in the occult or in spirituality that suits their need. Whatever the Satanist desires to harness and use for philosophical ritual or meditative practices are available. The Satanist, being a whole and independent entity is wise to use any method possible to create the results that are desired.
This process begins when the magician realizes that they indeed "know nothing". This is because the Satanist at the early stages of Satanism does not realize the options and the opportunities that Satanism as a philosophy offers. Flexibility in the ability to use multiple paradigms at the same time is needed to allow for the Satanist to be adaptable in any situation. This makes the Satanist the most dangerous animal of all in the occult world.
For instance, the Satanist could use aspects of enochian, the goetia and even qabalah into their practices and philosophies and still maintain the initial self which is unable to be influenced by these practices and beliefs. This is possible through the experience of the self as a divine being or as the realization and knowing that the self is god.
Yeah the term has been thrown around in Satanism for a long time. Knowing the self as a god is much more than self worship- it is the absolute experience of self that is undeniably the source and creation of the all as experienced through the soul (or inner being). From this consciousness these paradigms can be directed and controlled without being subject to its influences that could potentially sway or lead the Satanist from their original intent.
If the spiritual Satanist seeks to know the self from this aspect it is a process that is subjectively individual. It occurs through time, patience and work. It could possibly be the "Great Work" of Satanism, knowing the divine self. This is only my terminology for my particular experiences in Satanism.
How does one attain this kind of adaptability? For some it comes natural and for others it is a life long process. It is the ability to be able to use occult paradigms and philosophies as a tool, a prop and a means of survival and success with magick and other endeavors.
The Satanist that is self styled becomes strong in their own personal purpose and it is one of the great qualities that Satanism has to offer.
The whole idea of Satanism, is to be independent. To live a life without the constraints of compulsory "following" and to create a path that is effective and that can be used within satanism. To be original is to be unique and nothing can compare to that.
You decide.
