An excellent book to use in your own personal research is the Encyclopedia of Demons and Demonology. This book explores the dark folklores and religions of the world, with a non-christian view on demons and demonology. Some of the topics covered are demonic histories, cases of possession, demons in popular culture, and demons from religious traditions.
Encyclopedia of Demons and Demonology contains hundreds of entries from a-z with suggested areas of further reading, and 80 black and white photos on demons, reaching from the past into the present. The historical backgrounds are discussed along with their powers and abilities and their roles in our lives. This book also deals with famous cases of possession, discussing various ways to protect from their harm.
As recommended by several readers, it is not the kind of book to get if you are a beginner as the topics that are covered assume that you have some basic occult knowledge to begin with. In all, it is still a good reference to have on hand for your library. I have enjoyed reading this book from time to time throughout the years.
One happy reviewer stated: “This book really goes into fantastic detail about demons, demonology, the devil, and way way more. I love this book and recommend it to anybody looking for information on this topic, this book is exquisite and very well written. I’m looking forward to reading the other books by this author and exploring all the topics they’ve written about. Overall, fantastic!”

Checkmark Books; 1 edition (August 1, 2009)
ISBN-10: 0816073155 | ISBN-13: 978-0816073153
With Ceremonial Magic and the Power of Evocation you will learn more than just the art of summoning spirits. Lisiewski, a respected author in this field, brings forth over 40 years of work in this magical field to teach you the art of evocation.
Based on Heptameron of Peter de Abano, a forgotten grimorie that has escaped the attention of modern Ceremonialists, its simplicity and power in summoning the Aerial Spirits for each day of the week is second to none. Ceremonial Magic lays bare the operation of the Heptameron. It is all here, as in no other Grimoire. In Dr. Lisiewski’s first of several books on Magic and the Occult, with introduction by Christopher Hyatt and S. Jason Black, he opens the world of magical evocation to the student in a way that assumes nothing.
More than just getting demons to do your bidding, you will learn something more about yourself along the way. A must-have for any student seeking to hone their edge on the esoteric art of evocation. One reviewer of the Ceremonial Magic and the Power of Evocation stated: “The author continually restates important concepts so that the teachings will blossom in your mind, which will allow you to integrate his teachings to improve your own individual life.”
From his wonderful introduction, “Within these pages you will find not only a system of hard-core magical practice that will enable you to succeed in evocation, but an eclectic and very effective philosophy that can be used to build your own system of general magic, just like all of those successful magicians out there – both known and unknown – have forged for themselves, and which some even write about. Systems that work for them. And now you can do the same with this text. ”

The Dictionary of Demons lists from a-z more than 1,500 demons found throughout the world. For those that are simply curious to those that take demonology as a serious study, this book is a handy reference to finding out more about demons and their histories.
In the Dictionary of Demons, the Demons are described by their histories, cross referenced, and in addition, given an elemental or planetary association. Along with this are a wealth of illustrations, from the classic woodcuts, to paintings of yore. Anyone serious about studying demons will find a wealth of knowledge within.
As one reviewer stated..”Whether you believe, disbelieve or are indifferent to the concept of demons, the spiritual concept and sociological ideology behind the need to identify or create demons in human society is fascinating. In the well-researched book Dictionary of Demons by Michelle Belanger, the reader is introduced to an alphabetized pantheon of demon names, histories, side notes and indices that delve into this spiritually torrid and intellectually intriguing topic.”
A quote about Demon’s names from Michelle Belanger: “Words had power in the ancient world, and few words were viewed with more fear than those that named the forces of evil. Among many ancient people, the names of demons and devils were thought to act as a kind of beacon, calling those beings up from the depths whenever their names were uttered. ”

Based on a classical and notorious books on ceremonial black magic and summoning, The Grimorium Verum discusses demons, demonology and the dark arts. Containing a catalog of demons and methods of their summoning, it is an up-to date version that is easier to work with. Grimorium Verum by Joseph H. Peterson combines French and Italian texts on this subject, so a more complete interpretation is available in this book. This modernized text includes useful methods of ritual, an outline of demonic theology, and extensive notation on these subjects.
As one reviewer stated: “The Grimorium Verum is one of the more reputable sources of Medieval Christian demonology, specifically drawing from French and Italian heritages. In his translation, Joseph Peterson does not simply choose one text to draw from but rather combines several versions, looking to create a sort of “master version” of the text using the French and even disparate Italian versions. Between these three he not only compiles both nearly lost texts but through diligent sourcing and constant citation manages to create linkages and suggest connections between the text that may be lost on someone who is not prepared to slog through two languages to try and draw those connections him or herself.”
