Department: PCH-MAIN | Language Services Location: Phoenix Shift: Mon-Fri, Sat, (Days Vary), Shifts Vary, 12am-12am Posting #: 1047796 Employee Type: PRN Position Summary This position provides language interpretation services between patients, families and the healthcare team to ensure comprehension of cultural considerations during treatment planning. Position Duties Concurrently perform bilingual interpretation (English and foreign language) of patient care needs between patient, family, and health care team members to ensure understanding of needs, issues, and/or concerns. Provide consecutive interpretation following national standards of practice and ethics. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of interpretation activities. Participate in a variety of department and/or hospital-sponsored educational programs to maintain skills and competencies. Work closely with translators by identifying documents, materials, and other written information, including, but not limited to, consents and discharge information requiring translation. Refer identified psychosocial issues to social work, child life, pastoral care, or other family‑centered care departments to ensure appropriate and effective response to patient/family needs. Perform miscellaneous job‑related duties as requested. Position Qualifications Education: Completion of a medical interpreter training course that is consistent with national standards. Completion of Spanish Bilingual Assistant or equivalent training. Experience: Six months of experience in a health care setting. Special Skills: Experience interpreting in foreign languages as spoken and understood by patients and families served by the hospital.
