We conduct mixed-methods user research and create actionable insights that guide the design and development of Apple products.The role requires working at the intersection of many disciplines, on a variety of projects and with multiple partners. Curiosity to delve into new domains, the ability to learn from cross-functional, often highly technical partners and quick thinking are key.Ideal candidates are passionate user advocates, with the ability to anticipate, study and observe user interactions. They are technical and able to utilize and customize quantitative log collection, while also intuitively relating to the user and applying their intuition. Description The Human Engineering Human Factors team works closely with many teams around the company to conduct human centered research and create actionable insights to inform product decisions.Responsibilities include:Applying Human Factors Engineering (HFE) techniques and principles at all phases of product/technology developmentExercising independent judgment in the development of study methodology, data collection efforts, data analysis, conclusions, and design recommendationsDeveloping user study criteria and detailed methodology for widely varied projects, spanning from formative to evaluative, and qualitative to quantitativeConducting user-centered research and evaluation on a diverse user population, and utilizing experimental data and scientific publicationsConducting statistical and qualitative analyses of data and providing clear and concise feedback to teams in a timely mannerCollaborating cross-functionally with design, engineering, and product development groups.Maintaining an active working knowledge of worldwide human factors publications and standards Minimum Qualifications Expertise in creating thorough experimental designs, utilizing scientific methods Mixed methods expertise to combine quantitative and qualitative research approaches Relevant, proven experience in human factors and/or consumer product usability evaluation Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, patience, and aesthetic sensibility 3+ years industry experience in Human Factors or User Experience Research Master’s degree or higher required with a concentration or extensive work in human factors, industrial engineering, cognitive engineering, human-computer interaction, or experimental psychology. Preferred Qualifications Ability to customize data collection tools, as well as manipulate, analyze and visualize outputs Experience with scripting/programming for data manipulation and research applications (e.g., R, Matlab, Python) Expertise in interview techniques related to product use Experience in cognitive engineering (work/task analysis, information processing) Experience with human factors engagement through various stages of the product life cycle, including foundational, formative, and evaluative stages Experience leveraging AI tools to support research workflows, including study design, analysis, and insights synthesis 5+ years industry experience in Human Factors or User Experience Research At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $126,800 and $220,900, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
