Position Overview Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) is seeking a Compliance Industrial Safety and Health Investigator (CISHI-3) to conduct investigations and inspections of workplace safety and health hazards, particularly in the crane industry. The role involves independent investigations, documentation, and enforcement actions to ensure compliance with the Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA) and related standards. Key Responsibilities Conduct thorough investigations of accidents with hospitalizations, amputations, or loss of an eye, and determine root causes, especially when cranes are involved. Perform safety inspections and investigations related to crane accidents, falling objects, and rigging. Conduct pre-investigation research, review electronic files, and other relevant references. Enter physical worksites unannounced to conduct compliance investigations. Assist senior engineers on complex investigations involving multiple fatalities or hospitalizations. Investigate complaints and referrals to ascertain hazards and employee exposure. Document findings, prepare detailed reports, and respond to complainants per policy. Identify safety hazards, record field notes, photos, videos, and other documentation. Determine employer compliance or non‑compliance with WISHA safety and health standards and propose citations and monetary penalties. Assess compliance of accredited crane certifiers with WAC and ASME B30 series inspection requirements. Ensure abatement of identified hazards. Work with the Attorney General’s office and local prosecutors on complex cases. Testify as the department’s primary witness on inspections. Perform evidence handling for complex cases. And other related duties as required. Qualifications Required: Valid, unrestricted driver’s license; no convictions for DUI or driving offenses within the past 7 years. Proof of personal liability insurance if operating a personally owned vehicle for state business. Physical ability to walk through varied workplaces, including manufacturing plants, rough terrain, and exposure to weather for extended periods. Commitment to continuous learning and meeting the needs of others. Additional Qualifications: A certified tower or mobile crane operator with 7+ years’ experience. OR a certified crane inspector with 7+ years’ experience and accreditation from a recognized organization. OR a qualified crane mechanic or technician with 7+ years’ experience.
