Works under the direct supervision of Substance Abuse Clinical Director and/or the Program Manager.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Performs moderately complex substance abuse counseling work. Work involves planning, coordinating, and implementing substance abuse counseling activities, and coordinating with other departments, divisions, agencies, and community organizations to ensure the maximum utilization of resources available for chemical dependency treatment and rehabilitation. Will have frequent contact with sources of community referral agencies, such as Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, school systems, Adult and Juvenile Probation, Adult Parole, other law enforcement personnel. Will also work with mental health staff at Helen Farabee Centers for continuity of care. Facilitates social worker and other behavioral health interns/practicum students in the substance abuse program, under volunteer services. Coordinates admissions into Center outpatient adult & adolescent services. Will work with clients involved in the legal system and/or the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Will carry a caseload and be responsible for serving individuals who have co-occurring disorders. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. HFC incorporates principles of trauma-informed care throughout the agency, emphasizing cultural sensitivity and a safe and respectful environment for all individuals served and staff. Education, Training, and Experience Must hold at least a high school diploma or GED (an associate degree or more advanced degree preferred) and have current licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor Intern (Level III or have passed the written exam and designated as Level III), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or LPC Intern, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or LMFT Associate, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the Texas Department of State Health Services. If a LPC Intern or LMFT Associate, individual must comply with terms of that supervision as outlined in the state of Texas licensure requirements. All individuals must meet the educational and experience exemptions/waivers as outlined in HHSC chapter 562.5, pass criminal history standards which includes finger prints as described in 562.31, sign a written agreement to abide by the ethics contained in 562.23, and be worthy of public trust and confidence as determined by Health and Human Services Commission. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen to work with this population. Must have current drivers license and be insurable under Center insurance.
