Position Type: Special Education/ Behavior Support Specialist Date Posted: 7/14/2026 Location: District Services Center - Highland Park, IL Reports to: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and Instructional Coordinator Employment Group: Instructional Support FLSA Status: Exempt Work Year: 203 days (inclusive of ESY programming) Salary Classification: Non-Union Support Staff- $33k- $40k Salary Position Summary The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) supports the TrueNorth mission and is committed to the possibilities in every learner, every day. The RBT provides intensive behavior support services to students across school settings, implementing evidence-based strategies grounded in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This role collaborates closely with teachers, Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), andnsupport staff to implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), collect and analyze data, and promote safe, positive, and productive learning environments. The RBT may provide instructional support as needed but is not exclusively an instructional support position. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis and behavior support interventions Ability to assess student needs and implement interventions to redirect behavior Skill in collecting, submitting, and interpreting data for Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) Ability to implement multiple BIPs with consistency and accuracy across students and settings Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and BCBAs Ability to model behavior support strategies and BIP implementation for staff Capacity to provide physical intervention and follow district-approved restraint and timeout procedures when required for safety Flexibility, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills in dynamic environments Ability to work with students across a wide age range and potentially across multiple school sites Ability to maintain attention to detail, professionalism, and consistency in implementing behavior plans Qualifications High school diploma required Formal training in Applied Behavior Analysis or behavioral support interventions Successful completion of the Registered Behavior Technician training course and examination Paraprofessional License or Substitute License required Minimum of two years of experience working with students requiring behavioral support Participation in district-provided crisis intervention training Essential Functions & Responsibilities The following statements describe the general nature and level of work assigned to this position. Behavior Support & Intervention Implement BIPs with fidelity to support positive behavior change Collect, submit, and maintain accurate behavioral data for FBAs and BIPs Provide direct consultation to the BCBA regarding data analysis and recommendations for BIP modifications Deliver interventions to redirect behavior and support student regulation Provide physical intervention when required for safety, following district-approved procedures Participate as a member of the school crisis team Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, BCBAs, and administrators to maintain consistency in behavior support Model BIP implementation and behavior strategies for staff Attend meetings with the BCBA and other RBTs Communicate regularly with team members to ensure alignment and continuity of support Instructional & Classroom Support Provide instructional support to students as indicated by the classroom team Support students across multiple age ranges and potentially across multiple school sites Professional Responsibilities Maintain certification requirements and participate in ongoing crisis intervention training Follow all district policies related to restraint, timeout, and behavior support procedures Demonstrate professionalism, enthusiasm, and the ability to relate well to students of all ages Respond to direction from supervisors and contribute to a cohesive team environment Physical Requirements & Work Environment Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, use stairs, and move from floor to standing positions with ease Work may be physically demanding at times Must complete Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and employ these skills as necessary Frequent movement throughout classrooms, hallways, and school environments Regular exposure to students with significant behavioral needs, including potential for unsafe behaviors Requires flexibility, problem-solving, and responsiveness to changing student and team needs Postings current as of 7/16/2026 7:03:19 PM CST.
